Vetiver Essential Oil Its Uses And What It Is
Vetiver essential oil comes from the Vetiveria zizanoides plant, also known as Vetiveria zizanioides. It is a grass which is mainly grown in Indonesia, China and Haiti. The grass is much used for its extracts by the perfume industry, and is contained in around 90% of Western perfumes. The oil has a calming effect on the mind and body, helping to reduce irritability and anger as well as hysteria. In line with this it has a good effect on stress and tension. For more on these and other applications go to the section on Vetiver Essential Oil Uses further below.
Plant
Vetiveria zizanoides is an exceptionally hardy perennial grass. The leaves of this grass can grow up to 150 centimeters in length, and their width is approximately 0.8 millimeters. The leaves grow off panicles which in turn can be up to 30 centimeters in length, and come off branches which grow up to 5 centimeters in length. The striking thing with this grass though is the roots, most grasses have a horizontally spreading mat of roots, whereas the roots of Vetiveria zizanoides grow almost straight down up to 2 meters. It can survive through frost, fire, and heavy rain, plus it does an excellent job of preventing soil erosion and moisture evaporation due to its plant formation.

Anti-tuberculosis activity of Indian grass KHUS (Vetiveria zizanioides L. Nash).
"Vetiveria zizanioides L. Nash (Family: Poaceae) root (intact and spent) extracts and fractions were evaluated for antimycobacterial activity against Mycobacterium tuberculosis H(37)Rv and H(37)Ra strains using radiometric BACTEC 460 TB system...The observed potential inhibitory characteristic not only supports the traditional medicinal uses of vetiver but also signify a promising candidature of root extract and hexane fraction of V. zizanioides as an antituberculosis agent."

Points To Note On Vetiver Essential Oil Uses
It should be remember that it is an emmenagogue, and as such avoided during pregnancy. Other than that this oil is relatively gentle, as would be expected from something that is used with a variety of skin care issues. Its slightly earthy and musty aroma leading it to be more acceptable than other options by many young men, that said it matches up with many other more floral aromas and is widely used in products orientated to ladies as such. A good point for its use is that the nervine quality comes through as an aid to clearing the mental and emotional components of skin conditions, especially with acne, thus increasing its effectiveness with such issues.
The best results come from using a high quality source of Vetiver essential oil, which is the same for all oils really. With increased quality comes increased purity, which is a major point in terms of the effectiveness of the oil. Accessing a good quality supply for essential oils is relatively easy, and you will note the benefits when you use them.
