Vetiver Essential Oil Its Uses And What It Is
Vetiver essential oil comes from the Vetiveria zizanoides plant, also known as Vetiveria zizanioides. It is a grass which is mainly grown in Indonesia, China and Haiti. The grass is much used for its extracts by the perfume industry, and is contained in around 90% of Western perfumes. Vetiveria zizanoides is an exceptionally hardy perennial grass. The leaves of this grass can grow up to 150 centimeters in length, and their width is approximately 0.8 millimeters. The leaves grow off panicles which in turn can be up to 30 centimeters in length, and come off branches which grow up to 5 centimeters in length. The striking thing with this grass though is the roots, most grasses have a horizontally spreading mat of roots, whereas the roots of Vetiveria zizanoides grow almost straight down up to 2 meters.
