The plant is native to the region encompassing Southern Europe and Northern Africa, though is now grown in many other places. It is soft annual herb related to Caraway, Dill and Fennel, that grows to about 50 centimeters in height. Leaf shape is variable being broader near the base of the plant and more slender at the top.
